LOOKING UP - DESIGNING KIDS BEAUTIFY TORONTO A team of 10 -14 year old campers enrolled in Design for Change camp will be making a small but highly visible piece of Toronto more attractive for Torontonians and our visitors on Wednesday, July 16th. Design Exchange Camp Director Katie Weber contacted the City of Toronto seeking an orphaned location that could be improved by the creative young campers and from the options available chose a couple of planters that are near the base of the CN Tower. The City planters are in close proximity to the planters that the CN Tower maintains as part of Communities in Bloom. The Design Exchange sees these planters as a great fit as they give the young “guerrilla gardeners” both a safe location to work and an opportunity to revitalize a high profile location. This kind of experience instills a sense of civic pride and encourages these young designers of the future to get involved and make a tangible difference to their environment. This is one of a number of activities that address the individual’s role in changing the future of our environment.
