From Home Ec to High Tech:
60 Years of Fashion Education at  Ryerson
November 7, 2007- January 27, 2008

In honour of Ryerson’s 60th anniversary in 2008, students are planning a retrospective of six decades of design education at Canada’s premier School of Fashion. This thematic exhibition will examine how fashion education has transformed the landscape of Canadian design and publishing. Grounded in its early years as part of a Home Economics curriculum, fashion at Ryerson still draws on costume history and artisan techniques of making and representing dress while looking towards a future in which fashion is increasingly made and disseminated digitally.

Klockwerks
December 1, 2007 - March 2, 2008

Design Exchange launches a series of exhibits exploring design enterprises that recycle materials in distinct ways.

Roger Wood worked as a heavy construction engineer, and years later, studied interior designer at Ryerson University, before embarking as creative lead of the Klockwerks studio, located in Toronto’s Liberty Village.

Klockwerks: Shifting Gears is curated by Paola Poletto, the Senior Director of Programs at the Design Exchange. Admission is free.

Billboards

Really, I dislike them. Actually - that is too polite. I hate them. They are visual pollution - blocking our views and distracting drivers rushing down the highways. Billboards that top buildings are extra atrocious, perching like vultures ready to pluck the next consumer. Equally terrible: covering buildings with oversized vinyl banners - even if the buildings are derelict or just plain ugly. Isn't there a more creative, less offensive way to advertise?
