My Canadian Cultural Gateway Webpage Competition
Design Competition Submissions deadline:
March 24, 2006: Web Designers Show Your Stuff!

The Department of Canadian Heritage in collaboration with Design Exchange are hosting a national design competition as part of the redesign of the Culture.ca gateway planned for the fall of 2006. The aim of this competition is to select a winning design that will be designed for, produced and chosen by Canadians to be representative of their values, heritage and culture. A selection committee will shortlist three (3) design concepts. The Canadian public will have the chance to determine the winner through an on-line voting system. The winning team will receive a guaranteed fee of $2,500 CDN upon delivery of the source file and the final two-page design brief. Additionally, the winning design team will be acknowledged by the Department of Canadian Heritage on www.culture.ca

Spots are Filling Fast! March 13 - 17, 2006

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to design a movie logo, or a poster? How about deciding what your character will wear and what the set will look like? Will they have special furniture and cool props? You will have the opportunity to create all of this with yourself in the starring role. As a young designer in this camp you will sharpen up your design skills as you create the character of the next blockbuster.

Age Groups: 7 to 15 (groups will be coordinated)
Time: 9:00am to 4:30pm (Extended care available)

2006 DX International Speaker Series
Inaugural Lecture March 14, 2006


The Design Exchange presents an International Speaker Series with the theme of "Homes Around the World." This series is being held at the Design Exchange throughout 2006 and will be delivered by Canadian and International world-renowned designers and researchers. As Canada's centre for design research and education, our goal is to host lectures that involve diverse opinion, insight and discussion. "Homes Around the World" topics include dream home, sustainable home, universal home, and social housing.

The first lecture of the 2006 International Speaker Series will take place March 14, 2006 and feature Giovanna Franci of the University of Bologna, Italy and author of the recent book, Dreaming of Italy: Las Vegas and the Virtual Grand Tour. The lecture will be followed by audience participation through a question and answer period. Download Registration Form
