UNIVERSAL DESIGN WORKSHOP AT DESIGN EXCHANGE

Product & Space Design Workshop
Tuesday December 4 from 1-5pm
Presented in partnership with HCTP of University of Toronto

Alex Mihailidis, Jill Cameron and Sandra McKay are cutting-edge researchers that will be sharing their work with product and space designers, as well as policy-makers. This is a great chance for those in the design community to learn about ‘real-world research’ that could take their designs to the next level.

This workshop will introduce participants to mobility and spatial needs of the aging population through three case studies presented by U of T professors and researchers who will cover such topics as “smart room” technology, Artificial Intelligence, and biomechanical and neural mechanism research at the Centre for Studies in Aging. Data will be presented from previously conducted and ongoing research studies related to reach and grasp reactions, holding an object, handrail design, cuing systems and mobility aid designs.

Designers across disciplines, researchers, and accessibility experts and policy-makers are encouraged to participate. In partnership with Health Care, Technology & Place, CIHR Strategic Research and Training, University of Toronto. Contact Catherine at 416-216-2120 or catherine@dx.org to register. Class is $75 ($60 for DX members).

This workshop is part of a series on Universal Design. The theme this year is the aging population. For more information on this program visit www.dx.org/universal
