VOLUNTEER AT DX


Do you have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and love working with people? Apply now to join our team of event volunteers! Design Exchange offers a variety of opportunities to gain exposure to the collection, exhibitions and programs while making important contributions to the museum. Volunteers provide time and service to assist with the delivery or youth and adult programs, exhibtiion work as well as acting as ambassadors for Design Exchange.

Our volunteers share a passion and appreciation for design, are eager to deal with the public in a variety of contexts and are accountable and responsible.

DX Docent 

Position Description:
Design Exchange is currently seeking docents for the exhibition, POLITICS OF FASHION | FASHION OF POLITICS, on until January 25th, 2015.

Docents must be enthusiastic, cheerful and willing to learn. An ideal candidate should have an interest in working with people, students and professionals alike. A DX Docent is willing to become actively involved in the programs of the museum. Experience or interest in design, art, and culture is an asset. A passion for learning and teaching is essential, and previous experience as a docent is desirable, but not necessary.  

Docents Are Encouraged To:
+ Greet and welcome welcome visitors upon their arrival at Design Exchange and maintain a positive and pleasant attitude
+ Deal skillfully with a diversity of visitors under a variety of circumstances
+ Continually be aware and keep informed about changes in the exhibits
+ Assist staff at the information desks by providing information to museum visitors and answering theirquestions about Design Exchange and the exhibit
+ On occasion, assist with an evening special event program
+ Wander through the exhibition galleries to engage individual visitors and families in impromptu tours or conversations
+ Ensure the exhibition remains in pristine condition during exhibit hours
+ Sign up for minimum one shift a week during scheduled exhibit

Please note, this is a volunteer position with no paid compensation.

 

DX Event Volunteers

Position Description:
Volunteers are needed in various roles to support events at Design Exchange, some of which include greeting and welcoming guests, talking to guests about our supporter program, directing guests, handing out flyers and brochures, signing guests in at a registration table and more. Event schedules and volunteer shifts vary. Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis.

DX Event Volunteers Are Encouraged To:
+ Initiative taking, proactive and comfortable seeking out visitor contact, friendly and outgoing
+ Attend training session and ongoing training sessions
+ Available for four hours, twice a month

DX Street Team

Position Description
Street Team members will be asked to promote Design Exchange events through postcard and poster distribution around the city, on school campuses, and at designated drop spots; assist and represent Design Exchange during special events outside of the museum; assist in community outreach and marketing campaigns; and build strong relationships with community members/supporters.

DX Street Team Volunteers Are Encouraged To:
+ Initiative taking, proactive and comfortable seeking out visitor contact, friendly and outgoing, physical stamina — most of shift will be spent standing and walking
+ Attend training session and ongoing training sessions
+ Available for four hours, twice a month

DX Survey Volunteers

Position Description:
Survey Volunteers are crucial to Design Exchange’s visitor-research efforts. They help the museum gather visitor feedback by conducting surveys and interviews. Candidates must have a flexible schedule, including availability on weekdays and weekends. No previous survey experience is necessary, as training will be provided, but strong interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully interact with DX visitors are required.

DX Survey Volunteers Are Encouraged To
+ Initiative taking, proactive and comfortable seeking out visitor contact, friendly and outgoing.
+ Attend training session and ongoing training sessions
+ Two to three hours periodically, when surveys are scheduled
