Whether student, professional or retiree, Design Exchange offers a variety of opportunities to gain exposure to the collection, exhibitions and programs while making important contributions to the museum. Volunteers provide time and service to assist with the delivery or youth and adult programs, exhibtiion work as well as acting as ambassadors for Design Exchange.
Our volunteers share a passion and appreciation for design, are eager to deal with the public in a variety of contexts and are accountable and responsible.
Design Exchange is currently seeking docents for the exhibition, POLITICS OF FASHION | FASHION OF POLITICS, on until January 25th, 2015.
Docents must be enthusiastic, cheerful and willing to learn. An ideal candidate should have an interest in working with people, students and professionals alike. A DX Docent is willing to become actively involved in the programs of the museum. Experience or interest in design, art, and culture is an asset. A passion for learning and teaching is essential, and previous experience as a docent is desirable, but not necessary.
+ Greet and welcome welcome visitors upon their arrival at Design Exchange and maintain a positive and pleasant attitude
+ Deal skillfully with a diversity of visitors under a variety of circumstances
+ Continually be aware and keep informed about changes in the exhibits
+ Assist staff at the information desks by providing information to museum visitors and answering theirquestions about Design Exchange and the exhibit
+ On occasion, assist with an evening special event program
+ Wander through the exhibition galleries to engage individual visitors and families in impromptu tours or conversations
+ Ensure the exhibition remains in pristine condition during exhibit hours
+ Docents are required to commit to minimum one shift a week during scheduled exhibit
