Design Exchange's top-notch educators host free design workshops at community centres located in Toronto's priority neighbourhoods.

Our workshops implement our commitment and passion to offer unique and accessible experiences as well as share design stories to highlight the importance and relevance of design.

Design Exchange's workshops provide children and youth with the opportunity to consider design within the context of their everyday lives. Urban planning workshops, for instance, ask children to re-imagine Toronto into their dream city.

Through our Community Outreach Program, we seek to empower children and youth to be innovative and think creatively about their local and international communities.

Ain't I A Woman - I Am A Man
recounts history, family, celebration, hope, trauma, desire, and love within the soul and body of Black men and women through their visual and poetic work. This exhibition aims to highlight the voices and perspectives of youth on matters concerning the Black diaspora.

The exhibition is currently running inside the studio space at Design Exchange.

The intent of the exhibition is to bring together a narrative that critically explores and celebrates the Black diaspora. Diaspora is the scattering of people from their homeland. From Africa, to the Caribbean, to South America, and to the streets of Toronto; I look to these artists as storytellers of their ancestry and present time.

Through art and community we are discovering and reclaiming our diverse history, cultures and traditions. The studio is a space for the artists to share their reality. Visitors will step into a space that explores the complexities and nuances within the Black diaspora.

This is a space for conversation to challenge the ways in which media, culture and history inform and shape discourse.
