Q: What are the camp hours?
A: Camp activities run from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm each day. We offer complimentary before-care beginning at 8.30 am and after-care from 4.00 pm to 5.30 pm each day. After-care is an additional $10.00 per day.
A: We are located in the historic former Toronto Stock Exchange building at 234 Bay Street. Our building is south of King Street on the west side of Bay Street.
A: Yes! We ask that you bring your child into our lobby for sign-in on the first morning of your camp session so that we can ensure that all of the paper work is in order. All other mornings, camp staff will be curbside at the corner of Wellington Street and Bay Street between 8.30 am and 9.00 am to greet campers and escort them into camp.
For curbside pick up at the end of the day, we ask that you call our pick up line (a phone number will be provided to you on the first morning of camp) as you approach the Wellington and Bay corner and we will escort your child to your vehicle. This service is offered between 4.00 pm and 5.30 pm.
Curbside service is only provided between the times indicated.
A: 8:30 am – drop-off / before-care begins
9:00 am – camp activities begin
11:45 am – tidy-up / hand washing
12:00 pm – lunch outside in the TD courtyard or with parent
1:00 pm – return to Design Exchange and begin afternoon session
3:00 pm – snack
3:45 pm – tidy-up for the day
4:00 pm – pick-up / aftercare begins
5:30 pm – end of day
A: Our projects are very hands-on and creative, using quality materials. Each camp session generally goes on one field trip to a local design studio or other related site and will also be visited here at the DX by a guest speaker (dependant on scheduling). These are both great opportunities for campers to meet real working designers and ask them questions.
A: Yes! If you would like to take your child to lunch you can pick them up in the lobby of the Design Exchange at 12.00 pm. We will ask you to sign your child out and then return them by 1.00 pm to the lobby and sign them back in.
A: We need a signed note from parents in order to allow children to go out for lunch with other parents. We ask that you make these arrangements in advance.
A: No. We prefer to have campers remain with the group unless they are signed out for lunch by a parent. We have had problems in the past with campers not returning by 1:00 pm. We also feel that it can create a divide within the group when some campers are able to leave alone for lunch while others must remain on site.
A: We hire post-secondary students studying design or education, who have at least 2 years experience teaching and working with children, who are CPR and First Aid certified and who have passed a criminal record check. We also have student volunteers assist us during the camp that have a passion for design, have experience working with children and have First Aid training.
Q. What is the cancellation policy?
Refund and Withdrawals: A $30 fee will be charged for withdrawal requests made in writing, 14 days prior to the start of the session. The full session feel will be charged for withdrawals made less than 14 days before the start date
Note: This also applies to our March Break sessions. P.A. Day sessions have a $15 fee and require 14 days advance notice.
